2nd & 3rd Grades

In this combined classroom, students will alternate grade levels of study in Religion, Science, and Social Studies, with adjustments made for the each respective grade. The other subjects will be instructed per grade level, such as Math, Reading, and Language Arts.

grades 2-3

Religion Using the Voyages curriculum, students will learn about the Creation, Fathers of the Faith, the Ten Commandments, Old Testament stories, Jesus’ Birth, Confession and Absolution, the Sacraments, Worship, and Fruits of the Spirit.

Science Using the Discovery curriculum, students will learn about Light, Color, Dinosaurs, Fossils, Extinct and Endangered Animals, Sun, Moon, Earth, Food Chains, and Environments.

In Social Studies students will study Map Skills (Continents, Oceans, Hemispheres, Mapping and Grids). They will also study our American Heritage (Abeka): Historical Leaders and other significant people in American History.

In 2nd Grade Math (Saxon) students will review many previous concepts such as Numbers, Time, Calendar, Money, Measurements, Graph and increase their skills in Addition and Subtraction, Geometric Shapes, and Place Value. Students will add to their skills by learning about Polygons, Fractions, Base 10, Venn Diagrams, Comparisons, Perimeter, Mixed numbers, Estimating, Making Change, Graphing, and Multiplications.

Reading in the 2nd Grade: (Imagine It!) Along with reading a selected assortment of literature, students will increase their skills for reading through the following concepts: Alphabetical Order, Phonics, Journal Writing, Parts of Speech, Contractions, the Writing Process, Singular and Plural, as well as distinguishing the difference between Fairy Tales, Reality, and Fantasy.
